Had a very nice visit from some good friends from Ottawa. We spent the day taking in the views from The Ovens.

The next day while in Lunenburg we had lunch at Scuttlebutt. A nice little cafe/restaurant that has a play area for the kids. Little Henry decided that his Daddy’s hat fit him perfectly.

A few weeks back I was about to let Clover out the back door when I looked out the window and saw something sitting on the stump on the back hill. I didn’t have my glasses on but I knew whatever it was, was bigger than a cat. I went and got my glasses and was surprised to see a young eagle perched on the stump. He sat for a bit and looked around the yard and then took off up into the clearing. Since then he/she and his parents have been hanging out regularly in a big pine tree in front of the house.

Micro Terrarium June 17, 2011

Last night Clover and I went for a walk in the woods and I came across an old campfire pit and a scattering of jars. Curious. A few of the jars became natural terrariums for the tiny little ferns and moss that are part of the ground cover in the forest. I carried a few back home. My new treasures.

Devil dog

I was driving home through Bridgewater tonight admiring this beautiful antique “Fordomatic” driving in front of me. Then he put his brakes on. Do you see anything creepy in this photo? I just happened to have my camera next to me so now I have a photo as proof that I wasn’t seeing things.

Oak Leaf

I took the dog up into my little forrest for a run the other day and noticed all the oak leaves from last season decaying on the ground. As I looked closer I noticed all the wonderful patterns being created as different layers of the leaf dry into a transparent tissue and fall away.

Irish Moss

Another photo from the Village Nursery. Irish Moss. It’s so delicate and has tiny little white flowers. Someday when I have the time and money I will put some in my rock garden.

Inside the Dazee Dome

Now that the sun has decided to come up a few days here and there  everyone is scrambling to work int heir gardens and the flowers are finally blooming. I took a little trip down the river to the Village Nursery, one of the many amazing local nurseries. They have a big greenhouse called the Dazee Dome where you can find hundreds a beautiful blooms. Some of the colors don’t even seem like they could be natural. That’s what make nature so amazing.

Rhubarb

I love Rhubarb. I loved it as a kid. Just pick it, dip it in a little sugar, take a bite and involuntarily squeeze your eyes shut.  We ate stewed rhubard on vanilla ice cream allot. Mom made an awesome rhubarb crisp. Same as the apple version only with rhubarb, of course. With my little crop of skinny rhubarb I ended up making a banana, rhubarb bread. It was delicious. I can’t help but think of this recipe when I see rhubarb now. A few years back I got the cookbook Looneyspoons as a gift. In it is a recipe called Rude Barb’s Strawbapple Crisp. Dessert with an attitude.

Happy Belated Birthday To Me June 12, 2011

Birthday Card

My birthday was actually on May 22.  I’m just doing a bit of catch up with my blog and I had to post this.  My 4 year old goddaughter Tea made this beautiful birthday card for me. I love how all the letters that spell Happy Birthday are on the card, they just each have their own place on the paper.

Pretty Stamps

Every now and then a nice stamp will catch my eye. Leave it to Anu to add this beautiful combination of stamps on my birthday card. The images were so pretty that I had to take a photo. Thank you Anu and Tea for such a special envelope full of good wishes.
